I took lessons from the Santa Ana House of Music.
My teacher Leo Shultz: left and I am second from the left in the gray suit. I don't remember the other kid's names. I wonder if they are still playing steel?

48 years later and you're still playing, and now you have a SMILE on your face. I'd say your music lessons were time well spent.

Cheers to the humble music teacher. And to parents who had the foresight to make sure their children received a musical education.

James, all those steel guitars were loaners... My own Fender steel was metalic blue at the time. (my dad loved to fix up old stuff and paint it)
There were even more kids playing at the recital, I am still trying to fix up the old photo...

Cool vintage photo, bro. Thanks so much for sharing this, it really is precious. Everyone's so young and attentive to the instructor.

Things were indeed different back then. You'd be hard pressed to find a recital like this in today's world--but you just never know.....maybe in Japan

The Japanese headline says,"18 newbies challenge to play steelguitar!" Well, they are not as young as Dom used to be but they are young at heart

The studio in the Bay Area where I took lessons for a few years starting in 1964 it was Supros, with no legs.

And yeah, I still have the Supro...

Aloha Jack,

Mahalo nui loa for confirming my suspicion that yes, indeed, the spirit of Dom's original picture still exists somewhere in this world.

I know for a fact that Hawaiian guitar--and culture, music, hula, particularly, are popular in the Land of the Rising Sun. A couple of the dancers in my hula troupe worked there for a few years full time.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I am Japan bound!!!!
