Here's my Twin Reverb (it's a '65 re-issue) which is my favorite amp of choice for Steel Guitar

Call me crazy... but here is a 67 Twin and 69 Twin for the Tele and two D-130 JBL w/ Stewart 1.2 and now new Revelation pre-amp. for the U-12.. Big in Texas syndrome.. or is that like driving a Corvette ?? compensation.

Fender GDEC


They all get used regularly, plus non-Fenders are in the mix. The GDEC isn't so much an "amp" as a practice tool, but I highly recommend it, especially to any player who feels he/she is getting in a rut. Absolutely one of the best musical tools ever made.

here are my current Fender amps
Hot Rod Deville 2x12
73 Bandmaster, rebuilt now gig ready
64 Tremolux, rebuilt now gig ready

Always looking for a deal, not that there are any out there but I did find a deal on the cab under the Bandmaster ( Roc Pro single 12 cab) and I found a vintage 4 ohm Oxford C12N for $8 which is in that cab.

I've only recently discovered that they are the best amps ever made. Im late to the party for sure and remember all the cheap fenders Ive past up over the years with great regret.

I am on a LOW budget as the Kinks might say, so I tend to only buy ridiculous deals. That puts me in the silverface realm. Ive gravitated towards the drip edges. so far i have a showman and two vibro champs. *the showman was $100 on Craigs list and cost another $200 to repair (Ive since learned how to do that work myself)

65 Twin RI — I use this live a lot.
A real workhorse.

66 Bandmaster — My oldest amp (I'm still a few years older though).
A pair of vintage Jensen P12N's in this one. I use this for recording,
along with a Vox AC30 with Blue Alnicos, a heavily modded
Marshall 800 with 4 Vintage 30's, and a Peavey NV1000.


93 Dual Professional — This is another amazing sounding amp,
with 2 Vintage 30s in it. I also use this for recording,
and occasionally larger shows.

HotRod Deluxe — I use this at rehearsal. I may start bringing it to smaller gigs (or as a second amp).

Ben - So you spent a *total* of $300 on a Showman head?

Yikes - that's about as good as finding one in a dumpster (which my son did with an Ampeg V4!).

Great score! Try it with a pair of Substitubes and US or British (Holland if you can find some) EL84's (use he inner or outer sockets and leave the other two empty - just DON'T use only the left or right pair!!!!) and you'll have a monster of an AC15 head - but with big iron to keep it tight. Or try 4 of 'em for an AC30 on steroids.

Same thing for Twin owners - it's SO hard to get a decent tone at home without rattling the windows - EL84 adapters just plug in to the 6L6 sockets and no biasing is required. I have a pair in my Holland 2x10, turning it into a faux-AC15. A VERY inexpensive way to get yourself a lower-powered amp.

I was up early one sunday morning and it was in a craigs list ad titled "music stuff". In the middle of this long description of junk like wireless microphones, broken speakers, and rack mount multi effects it said "68 showman $100".

On xmas eve this year there was an ad for a 72 vibrochamp for $200. It turned out to be a 68 drip edge and is a really nice little sounding amp. I love it in fact.

There are still incredible deals. Nothing beats the dumpster find tho. wow.

I wanted a tweed deluxe so bad I went and built a clone. it sounds great, but you know...its just not the same as owning the real thing. great looking amps everyone.

Ben, I'll give you $110 for that Showman head, that's a 10% profit ! I think you should jump on this offer.

the drip edges are basically the same amps as those up to 73, thereabouts, just before Master Volume controls were added. thereabouts.. Mostly based on the AB763 circuits.

'67 Vibrolux Reverb

Where's Alvin Blaine at? He has a ridiculous collection.

I use my Fender amps for guitar, and all are solid state.

The Marshall half stack is the benchmark by which I compare all amp tones. It's got a great sound for hard rock rhythm playing, but not enough grind for solos (although I do like the way it sounds with PSG).

That's where the Fender amps come in. They have all the gain and high end I could ever want, and with the right speakers they sound (in varying degrees) like the Marshall.

The amp to the top left is a Fender Princeton 112 with a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker. This amp is great for recording and it has a lead tone that really cuts through.

At the top right is a Fender Automatic SE with a Celestion Rocket 50 speaker. I use this amp at gigs when I want to travel light or if I'm practicing over at someone else's place. It puts out a little more bass than the Princeton, but not too far off in terms of tone.

To the bottom left is a Fender Ultimate Chorus with Celestion 7080 speakers. It has a buzzy square wave overdrive, but sometimes I like that sound. Almost like having a built-in fuzzbox. The amp's overall tone tends to emphasize the lower midrange frequencies.

And to the bottom right is a Fender Roc Pro 1000. I left the stock Eminence speaker in it because it sounds like a Celestion G12M70. The Roc-Pro definitely has a 'classic rock' tone to it, and as an added bonus I can footswitch between clean, rhythm, and lead settings in a live situation.

Some people might call them junk, but these amps have served me well.

I did get lucky today, in my net strolling last night I came across this mid 60's Bandmaster cab( right in the photo ) which I had on my "get fast" list..

Well today ( Thursday ) I got it fast ! It sits under the 73 Bandmaster..Not perfect but clean ( kinda restored) and complete..Legs and all, and cheap....and with two Oxford 12's which I believe are correct for the era, not sure yet, will find out soon. So add this cab to my Fender gear... I can tell you this, it friggin' sings with both the Tremolux and the Bandmaster heads !
