Hi all, I never thought I'd post one of these copedant questions....but here goes:
I'm in the process of changing one of my steels (S12)from ext E9 to the E9/B6 universal setup.
I have 8 pedals / 5 levers to play with. (LKL,LKV, LKR, RKL, RKR)
I have been researching this tuning, however it seems that everyone who uses it has a totally different setup to the next guy, so I'm a little unsure where to start.
Please send me suggestions of the most standard E9/B6 (if there is one) that I can use as a starting point. My main concern is keeping my 'E' lower on RKL and 'E' raise on LKL, and the standard A,B,C pedals. Other than that it's open slather.
I have a Joe Wright E9/B6 instructional DVD, but he doesn't let you in on his setup...which kinda makes it hard...
Anyway, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

My apologies, Damien. I didn't read your post quite right.
Hi Damien. I have Joe Wright's E9/B6 DVD and once you go along with him on it you will see that his instruction is independent of any guitar setups. I own a Carter S12 7x5 with the boowah on the 4th pedal. I can still follow along with him because he states something like "... the pedal that raises the seventh string ... " or something like that. My pedals and levers are exactly like his when he explains what each does even though my boowah is not pedal 8. He states that his pedal 4 is an interchangeable pedal. Once you get to know his dialogue then you will do well.

I lower my Es with RKL and Raise with LKL.
My LKR folds up out of the way and rarely gets used.
When first ordering or setting up a Universal PSG.
for me it took some live experimentation.
I like a compensator on the 6th string G# for the A-F change.
Every one has preferences that may evolve as a player progresses.
In hind site I would suggest simpler is better at first.
Some of my pulls I have backed off the hex nuts in order to smooth out the action.
It is nice to have them for future experimenting.

Damien I just put in an order with Bill Rudolph for a new U12 and had the same problem you did deciding on a copedant. I found a few forum threads where people posted theirs printed them all, along with the ones b0b has on the copedants link and did some homework.
Here is my result, of course I haven't played it and can't say I think it's perfect...

I play a universal. The copedant shown in this topic is pretty standard - except - I highly recommend that the A and B pedal changes be extended to the bottom strings. Also the 11th string E pulls with the knees to Eb and F are optional - I like the E to F but not the E to Eb. DO incorporate the B to A change on pedal 2 for the 12th string. It resolves nicely in the V-I change (no pedals to pedals down, same fret). Also changes on string 7 (F# to G# and/or F# to E) are nice. And the boo-wah should be on the first 6th pedal (usually pedal 4)...that's where it should have been all along. Also, if you can get a split to get a C on strings 5 and 9, that's a nice change when added to the boo-wah (resolve an ending from an open G# cord to a I cord C for example. Have fun! |
