Wilson Jam Was Fun

What a great weekend we had in Wilson, NC. Bowie Martin came through again with a great weekend of fun. He along with the Mid-Atlantic Steel Guitar Association made sure everyone that showed up to play did play and boy what a great time seeing the ole friends again. Jerry Flemming, Clyde Mattocks, Boo Miller, Larry Hyde, Glen and on and on and on....And Herby was just Herby. You know when ya see and hear Herby Wallace play you expect certain things right??? Well as usual he came through with great licks and one sweet sound. If you're missing these events you gotta stop reading about them and join in the fun. I met a couple of friends who don't think they are good enough to play at these jams. WRONG WRONG WRONG. I am learning so much from these jams and "ALL" the great players are helping me with new stuff and a lot of incouragement. I tried "TARA THEME" and successfully "butchered" it like a cow being slaughtered at the poor house but I gotta tell you...it was fun and we all had a million laughs. And folks that's what it's all about. The Next Jam is in Kannapolis, NC. Make your plans to attend and have a little fun in your life. If you're afraid you aren't going to play as good as the guy next to you....set up next to me (hehe) you'll sound great after I play(HA!HA!). Thanks a million to all who put on this jam....you're hard work was appreciated .

God Bless You All,

Ray Walker

PS. I sure did miss my ole pal Bob Hayes who couldn't make the jam due to surgery. Unfortunately he has to go through it all a second time and my prayers are with him. When it's all over he will be better than new, and he'll be back to enjoy the fun as always.

I want to thank everyone for coming!! What a super group of people!! After the Saturday night event with the band and ALL the steelers playing, I was so excited I could hardly sleep. Of course my low point was when I was doing "Spanish Eyes" only to find my E knee pedal was folded up; the bad thing with playing with a CD is the CD won't cover for you like a band will. So there went the confidence......oh, well, there is alway the next one!!!

I want to personally thank everyone that came out to support our 1st MASGA Jam of the new year and what a great time everyone had. I feel like everyone enjoyed themselves, as I know I did. All players on every level of playing ability had the opportunity to play and perform. It was just great to have Herby Wallace with us again. He brings & adds a lot class to our events and everyone enjoys and looks forward to his performances and showmanship. Herby seemed to really enjoy his participation in the jamming session with Jerry Fleming, Clyde Mattocks, & Boo Miller. This was a great event and I want to say again that I appreciate everyone who attended Bowie Martins MASGA Jam. Our Back up band was great and (our very own Member) Larry Haddock played his electic Fender guitar with the band both days. I will also mention that Larry turned 70 years young Sunday and he still plays with class like a 25-30 year old pro. I big thank you goes out to Bowie Martin, his wife Melba (our promotor), Larry Hyde (MASGA treasurer) and (his Fiance) Doris for handling all the food and refreshments both days. Our Next MASGA Jam will be in Kannapolis NC. on March 29th and 30th. Make your plans now to join in on the fun and fellowship.

Thanks
Ken Latchum

Wow! Sounds like a good time was had by all! Sorry I missed out on that one! But I know that with folks like Clyde Mattocks and Boo Miller doing some pickin', it had to be good! By the way..maybe some of you folks down that part of the country might want to encourage ole Clyde to get himself a computer so he can join us on the forum!

Hi Fellers,

I also enjoyed it. I must admit that the jazz Herby did was my favorite part of the gathering. I have 2 regrets, however: 1) That I wasn't able to stay around and hear my good friend Larry Haddock play and 2) that I had to leave early. I had a 5:00 p.m. rehearsal in Smithfield and a jazz (guitar) gig that night. I WAS going to attempt to play something on steel, though... I couldn't ignore Ken Latchum's challenge. Thanks, Bowie and gang, for putting together a really neat event. I look forward to attending at a future date and actually playing something for you guys.

Peace,

Rick

All of the above!! It was a good weekend. Herby is a real class act.

I had been corresponding with him on the possibilty of purchasing a Mullen from him. My highlight was when he allowed me to sit in a jam session on HIS steel.

And then guess what? Yep I ordered one. But it was an honor to be able to use his complete rig - for an hour - I guess that is my 15 minutes of fame.

Herby, thanks for being in our midst

And Jerry, Clyde, Boo, Bowie, Ray, Larry, James, the band, the singers, and others. MASGA has pushed me more than I have ever been pushed before and if you have not been to one of our weekends, you don't know what you are missing.

Bowie and Melba, thanks.

What a wonderful weekend! Image

Hats off to Bowie Martin for doing such a great job in getting this one together -- and what a turnout! I am constantly amazed at the talent of the players -- what an inspiration just to be in your presence! You guys are wonderful! Boo Miller, Clyde Mattocks, Herby Wallace, Ray Walker, Kenny Dail (the picture's great by the way; I'm waiting for my tape! Ha!), Jerry Hayes, Jerry Fleming, James Barrow, Larry Jenkins, Glen Lanning, Bowie Martin, Larry Hyde, Larry Haddock, the band, and I could go on and on . . . what a great bunch of guys! Now, I ask you -- what more could a girl ask for the weekend?! Image Thanks everyone for a truly memorable weekend -- it's definitely one I'll treasure! I got some great pictures too -- inside and outside -- I'll have to send some around! Image

Thanks Boo for the compliment on my singing . . . It's a trade-off 'cause I get to hear you guys play what I want you to! Ha! Seriously, any time! Image

Bob Hayes . . . I sure did miss you at this one -- hope you'll be up and picking again soon!
