Building a lap steel

Post by Malcolm Carmichael II »

I am in the process of building my first lap steel. I want to build a console and was wondering if anyone could tell me where I may find some dimensions or maybe a scale drawing of a keyhead. I am looking for something similar to those on a pedal steel guitar that have tuners.

You can buy an instructional program on ebay. I don't know if its any good, but it says it covers consoles.

Hope this helps!

Here is a picture of a steel I built. Maybe it will help. I measured the tuners I used to see how thick to make the keyhead. Norm

I like that! As The Beatles once said (sort of), 'It's a clean machine, very clean'.
