Has anyone tried the Republic weissenborn's with the built in pickup and EQ?

I haven't. They look like typical Chinese-made Weissenborn style guitars, so unless they have something magic they're doing to these particular instruments, they probably sound like all the others.

I think the difference is that while the parts are made in china, they are constructed here, by a guy in Texas. I've heard good reviews of their resonators on some of the dobro and blues focused forums. they sell the weissenborn for about $350 with p/u and eq built in. If you want to sling a weiss in the back seat and take it to the beach, might not be a bad deal.

My understanding is that Republics are built in China, and finished/set up in the US. At least that's the case with the resos.

I find this model very poor for Republic trademark!! They looks like too models first prices, same if it's a first price.

I don't know from pretty. And I haven't played or heard the weissenborne. But the tricone that I owned was an excellent instrument. The best advice is to always try to play one before buying whenever it is possible. Somebody else may think it's great. But it may not suit your needs.

I haven't heard the Republic Weissenborne, but Frank seems like an honest guy who is big on quality control. I don't know that it looks like a factory 2nd instrument (if I'm understanding a previous post correctly) but the logo on the peghead doesn't strike me as being as "sharp-looking" as the one on my roundneck tricone.

I would expect it to be a good-playing and good sounding instrument.
I've been wanting to try one of his roundneck parlors and one of his squareneck brass guitars (not sure if he still has the latter).
