Anyone seen this? Susie and I saw it over the weekend, and I was not only happy with the location and frequency of the steel guitar, but the songs Bridges sang (and he did sing) were fresh and not the usual cookie-cutter tunes that are common in today's country music.

I'm really looking forward to seeing it,- not only is it said to be Bridges best role so far, but with a soundtrack like this you can't go wrong:

saw it sunday, was wondering if a post would come up on the movie.
lots of good music and on the road footage.
jeff bridges as bad blake was excellent.
the big surprise to me was how good collin farrell sang.
lots of steel actually showing the guy playing, i wonder who he was?
i'll be getting the soundtrack.

The tune "Fallin' and Flyin'" was a neat song. I don't doubt it could be released as a single. Will, weren't there a few steelers -- or at least two, one of which I'm sure was Greg L?

Tonight on NPR's "Fresh Air" Terri Gross had a one hour interview with T Bone Burnett. You can probably find it in the NPR web archives. They have several outtakes from the sound track and he discusses the writing process for the movie.

T Bone also talks about teaching Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon to sing for the Johnny Cash movie. Phoenix nailed "walk The Line" in one take...Well, after he had rehearsed it every day for three months. I'm thinking, why wouldn't he?????????

Is this movie playing in theaters? I have not heard of it. I doubt that it will play here but it should be a rental.

It's just in limited release right now, large metro areas, and is supposed to go nation wide next month. They had to get it in a certain number of theaters last month, so it would qualify for the upcoming industry award season.

Is this movie basically, "Jeff Bridges does Kris Kristofferson?"

i get you, barry. jeff's been on several tv talk shows lately...i had to look 2 or 3 times to make sure it wasn't kris.

And let's not forget about the influence Sea Hunt must have had on their acting careers

Actually, Jeff did an album in 2000 called "Be Here Soon." Had some cool songs, but not country, even though Jay Dee Maness is listed among the musicians on the album.

From the clips on TV, Jeff looks like the second coming of Waylon, not KK.

Apparently the author (Thomas Cobb) of the original novel, published in 1987, had Hank Thompson in mind as the basis for the Bad Blake character that Jeff Bridges plays.

Credits show Greg Leisz as the steel player. Haven't seen this yet, but talked to a few folks who really loved it.

Jeff is also great in 'Tucker, The Man and his Dream', 'The
Last American Hero', 'Rancho Deluxe', 'The Last Picture Show', and 'Texasville', all favorites of mine and well worth seeing.

Gonna hopefully take the missus this weekend...cool to see Robert Duvall is in this one too (of course, he played "Mac Sledge" in Tender Mercies, a movie from the early 80s in a similar vein).

Craig, how bout that soundtrack from "Rancho Deluxe"? If you like early Jimmy Buffet (1975) with superb steel work by Doyle Grisham. Not to mention it is a beautiful movie to watch. I believe it was shot in Montana. That's a YOUNG Jeff Bridges with sidekick Sam Waterston (Law & Order) as two wanna be cattle rustlers. Jeff Bridges has been a great actor for a long time. Love "The Big Labowski". Don't know who could have been better as The Dude!

Agreed Mike, I have the soundtrack to Rancho Deluxe on CD and the Movie on VHS, someday I will get the DVD. My only complaint about the soundtrack is like alot of them from that time, the songs are all short, wish they would just let the tape roll, there are some real kickin' instrumentals on the record. I have the album framed in my bar/music room, it's a real cool album cover.

Saw the movie over the weekend, and it is well worth seeking out..I too thought Jeff Bridges resembled Waylon more than Kris, but either way, his performance was fantastic. Robert Duvall and Maggie Gyllenhaal were also excellent.

Finally saw it last night. I thought the movie was good, 3.5 out of 5. Maggie G was OK, didn't think her part was casted properly. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised at Colin Ferrel. Had no clue he could actually sing, and he was good! Jeff Bridges.... Priceless! Not only was his singing fantastic, his portrayal of an old legend down on his luck was so real it was mesmerizing. Oscar Material if you ask me! A must see for Bridges performance alone.

PS Also loved the soundtrack.

The chap that you saw on steel, was Ron Sodos of Alb' NM, and a member of the SW Steel Guitar Association...or so I have been told.

I saw it ,,with my ol' lady ,, she cried alot ,, and she wrote and recorded 6 albums worth of songs ,, so bring some tissues for the dame if you bring her ,, as for me ,, I thought th movie was pretty good ,,but you gotta like chain smokin and drinkin
