Rhythm Tracks

I would like to figure out a way to get a lot of rhythm tracks recorded on my lap top computer and configure a way to an amp for back up, so I can practice the lead. Anyone have any suggestions on if there is some software or some configuration that one can do to accomadate a better way to practice and select various tunes off the screen vs selecting the knobs of a cd player each and every time.
Please give me your tips if anyone has done it this way ...Thanks...Bill...
