Cool! Ray, how are you getting those harmonics? It's hard to tell from the camera angle.

That was brilliant, Ray! Such clean execution and - as someone else said - a nerveless performance!

Surely this is a lesson to all in having solid basics? (Certainly a lesson to me!!! :whoa: ) It is a great tone, for sure, but that's 99% Ray, I think...

I looked at a lot of the the Ray posts and enjoyed them very much! Thank you. I'm usually not much for the non-pedal style unless it is performed as well as these.

We are all very fortunate to have so many legendary steel players in our midst. And they're willing to share their tips, insights, history, and experiences. What a great place the Forum has become. Thank you Mr. Montee. Thanks b0b!

Re:Ray Montee video

This video ought to settle the argument about proper bar technique. However, the real value of this video is the ability of my generation and later (the last of the Boomers, born in 57)to see back in time to a generation of musicians that really set the standard for craftsmanship and artistry that I can only wish for. THANK YOU Ray Montee for participating here in the Forum and I look forward to more of your wisdom!!!!

I see a couple of guys on here giving Ray a bit of a hard time. I don't pretend to know, or care, why, but it seems to me that he's been - and may well still be - a master player and is due his full share of respect.

I don't really care much for the tune, but that's very much beside the point in the face of a solid technique like he displays here!

I wish I could do that - then I would... :D

Ray, what is the badge you're wearing? I've watched this clip several times over the years but I never noticed the badge before.

I think I've figured it out... it's a StarTrek "com" badge, in case you need Scotty to beam you out.

Well Alan..................since you asked:

From my lo-profile position........
I'll attempt to respond to your question.

That 'badge' was a freebie that came with the sponsors' matching jackets for the entire band. I believe it was generic so you could have it mean anything you wish. Whatever makes folks here on the SGF happy and you know how that is, right Alan?

A special thanks to Walter for bringing my playing to the attention of the SGF. It's much appreciated.

...the one in the video. The announcer calls it "Swingin Steel". It has a polka feel about it, especially with the accordion player.

An incorrect song title...............

Post by Ray Montee »

Heck Harper.........the band leader/host of the show,
mistakenly called the tune 'Swingin' Steel'......

HOWEVER, the actual/correct title is "SWINGING on the STEEL". I forget who recorded it........

YES, I can still play it.....C6th of course.
