WANTED: Non Pedal Steeler for Hawaiian band in Houston

This probably belongs in the "Jobs" section, but I've put it here because we're looking for a non pedal steel guitarist to get more of that authentic tone and phrasing. We play traditional Hawaiian, Hapa Haole, and pop/rock with a Hawaiian flavor. About 75-80% of the repertoire is cover tunes.

For the last year, I've had to split my duties between drums and PSG and now have reached the point of having to choose between one or the other. It's too much work to do both so I've chosen the drums. What we do is fun and unique and is a great opportunity for somebody who has the desire to practice and learn it.

Full Disclosure: We've been at it over three years and, while we do make some money at luaus, private parties, and special events, no one is quitting their day job if you know what I mean. The idea is to have fun and do something a little different. The pocket change is a bonus.

Hey Matt -- any chance you and your band can all move to the Tampa, Florida area? Well... probably not.



Wish you were in this area. I'd love to play more of that stuff. My trio, Haole Kats!!! hasn't been playing much Hawaiian lately. We still play a lot as Wholly Cats!!!, but that's the non-Hawaiian version of the band.

Thanks, Todd. Where we really need to be is in California! You know as well as I do that that's where a lot of the Polynesian action is, but I'd "settle" for Florida any day. The Mai Kai sounds like a fun gig.
