Hey Sam....thanks for the post.. I must correct you though...the name of the Band is Southern Drawl, although I have played in some places that would suggest the name Southern Brawl Very Happy but that was another band Embarassed
Steel guitar is alive and well here in North Carolina and there are a lot of bands here that have steel guitarists in them. Bowie Martin runs a club here that has a rule. No steel guitar...no gig....Its called the Ice House and what a great place to go listen to top notch bands perform. Matter of fact Bowie himself is a very accomplished steel guitarist and does, in fact, perform at the Ice House as well. There's also this young buck down here named Clyde Mattocks....and he tends to steel the show anytime he's around...I really think this young man is gonna make a real name for himself if he keeps woodsheddin.
There are just way too many steel players in this area to name them all but they are here and they're working if they want to. Now that's some good reasons for taking a vacation in North Carolina.

Thanks again Sam, and you're ole buddy Bob Cookson will be there tonight. I know you're all gonna have some fun

Ray, thanks for the way too much credit, but people tend to do that when you get old. Hope you guys have a great gig and don't let Sam have too much fun. We're off to Richmond for our NYE gig toninght.

Mr. Mattocks.

When I came back from Thailand in 1969 to Seymour-Johnson AFB in Goldsboro NC, the NCO club had country night on Fridays.

Mr. Charlie Albertson's band played there alot and if my memory serves me correct, werent you the Steel player. Great band and Great Steeler.

Thanks for the info.

HEy Ray thanks for getting me straitened out on the Bands Name. You guys did one great job last night and Anna and I danced our legs off all night. I enjoyed seeing Bob Cookson and his Bride. It was great to see the band and your Bride Deb and to see she is doing real well.Anna and I enjoy all your company and the great music. We will see you again next Saturday at the American Legion in Benson.

Clyde Maddocks you can not keep a active guy like me calmed down I'm use to being on the go all the time. I never stop that is what keeps me a young 73.I'm waiting for another MASGA Jam so I can go and play and let them see the improvement I have made in the past few years.I'm not that good yet but I'm getting close all I have to do is sit down and start to practice again as I had slacked off for about 4 months and have not touched the Steel.I just can let this happen i have to get back into playing again.
