Someone I know who has played steel guitar his whole life and who is now almost 90 years old never touches a pedal or knee lever on his guitar. I noticed this when we played a show together a while back. I listened to some old recordings of him playaing at square dances in the 1960's and the same thing- no pedals or knee levers. I wonder if he just never bothered to learn them? He plays quite well without them but usually picks out the melody playing one note at a time. I just think its funny that he hooks up all those pedal rods for nothing?
Any thoughts?
