Hi Don, I've never heard of a wireless card wearin out or expiring so I suspect the trouble is elsewhere. What kind of laptop are we talkin about here? Make and model?

They most certainly can and do overheat, or the contacts can become worn from extended inserting and removing them from the cardbus slot.

Also, drivers can be corrupted, or deleted, causing the laptop to lose its memory of the card type.

Wireless signals can change their intensity if you move to a shielded room, or are close to a microwave device or cordless home phone base. Wireless routers sometimes go insane occasionally and need to be rebooted.
