I am a gear junkie. I admit it. I'm always buying selling and trading.
When I was at the NAMM show last week I played a Martin D-18 guitar with a MI-SI (under saddle) pickup through a Fishman Loudbox 100. It sounded fantastic. 100 watts, one 8" woofer, one tweeter.
I was demoing ukes for the aNueNue ukulele company and I was playing my signature model uke AND my 1954 Fender Champion Lap Steel through this Fishman amp and they both sounded fantastic.
Question to you amp heads: Do you think the Fishman Loudbox 100 will sound good with a uke, a lap steel, an archtop guitar with a floating pickup and sometimes a Stratocaster.
Yeah, I know I can take these instruments to Guitar Center and try it out - but that's four instruments.
What is the gut feeling about this?
Thanks. _________________ Gerald Ross

Moved to Electronics from Steel Without Pedals.
I have a feeling that it will sound great with whatever instrument you run through it. I have heard nothing but good things about this amp, although I have no direct experience with it.
You know you want it. You know you'll buy it. You know you'll get something better next year.
Go for it! _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

I've heard it is a great amp to run a dobro thru, with the Fishman/Aura system. I don't think it would be warm enough for a lap steel or Elec. guitar. But I could be wrong. I plan to buy a Loudbox 100 soon, myself. _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

I just came back from trying this amp at my local Best Buy. I demoed these:
1. A tenor uke with a passive under the saddle Fishman pickup.
2. A 1954 Fender Champion Lap Steel with a Jason Lollar replacement pickup.
3. A Taylor 514 CE with a Taylor Expression System pickup.
4. An Epiphone ES 335 copy with an embedded humbucker.
Everything sounded fantastic and I was able to dial up an appropriate and pleasing tone quickly on each instrument.
Now I need to sell something to finance this project. _________________ Gerald Ross

Dag nab it! Why'd you have to say anything? Now I gotta get one. I didn't realize that GAS was so contagious. _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

One thing I should add is I don't go for heavily distorted styles of music or tone. I prefer a clean sound. So both the Fender Lap and the Epiphone ES 335 were set for clean, jazzy tones at a reasonable, pleasant listening level.
Using the Loudbox for Heavy Metal or Blues/Rock with a distorted, mid range tone... I don't know. _________________ Gerald Ross

I do. It's the wrong tool for the job. It would be like installing Phillips screws with a socket wrench.
Congratulations, Gerald. I'm sure you'll sound great through that amp. I've heard of many happy players, usually resophonic guitarists. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel
