Any recommendations for a basic, easy to use recording software program compatible with an IMac. I have used Garageband but find it's presets annoying. I am looking to record just 2-3 guitar tracks per song. Thanks.

I'm using Presonus Studio One. Free demo on Presonus.com. Unlimited number of tracks. It does everything from start to finish, mastering, burn to CD, make Mp3, includes all the Meta song data, etc... It comes with a lot of plugin effects, and virtual instruments. I'm really liking it. It's the newest thing out. You'll also need an interface. I use the Presonus Fire Studio Mobile. Again, Brad Lyons at Sweetwater is the man that can advise you best. He know all about this stuff and what the good deals are.

Not sure I'd say it's basic or easy to use, but worth a look maybe... It gets a lot of rave reviews on some of the recording forums.

I use Pro Tools which I find very easy to use (and it would have to be easy for me to use it), but if I was starting over again, I'd probably get Logic. I usually record one stereo track and that's it. Both of these are good with a Mac.

Reaper=free (well, cheap anyway), but I'd agree with Susan and Bill on the Logic thing, and there's a great forum too.

Why not just use Garageband without the presets? It's fairly straightforward.

You might also check out Mackie Tracktion ....That's a very intuitive program ...Jim

Depending on what one wants to do with one's recording, Garageband may not be suitable. If I understand the book right, GarageBand will only give you an AIIF file. If you want to do CD Baby (just for instance) , from what I understand you need to send them a WAV file.

I've used Logic for years and have recorded several fully produced CDs with it. Both Logic and Garage Band are native apps for Mac and they are well supported and work flawlessly (if they don't you need to head to the Genius Bar). Logic is incredibly deep and full featured but is probably overkill for you.

I am curious why you have issues with Garage Band. You can simply create your own presets or reset the track. You can start the program and have all the presets removed.

You already own it, there is a ton of support for it, and it should do everything you want.
