Topic: strings feel dirty to the touch |

Havent really noticed this much in the last 2-3 years of playing regularly. but recently my strings have been dirty to the touch that I couldn't stand playing them without wiping them down. 
but thing is I don't normally wipe my strings and in the last 2-3 years almost never wiped down my strings after playing. but recently I have noticed them being dirty to the touch.. 
I guess it would be a good idea to clean them with a lubricant of some kind when they're like this.
What have I been doing differently these last couple of weeks I wonder? hmmm

| Playin' out side in the Okla. heat can get my strings real sticky. I use a bit of Tri-Flow sprayed on a piece of cotton cloth, wrapped around the string. Run the length of the string with the soaked cloth, and it's clean as a whistle. It works for me, especially on my 6 stringers, and the twang seems to stay with'em longer. |

Been using GHS Fast Fret for years and works great for me. Then take a piece if paint paddle with a soft piece of thin foam material around the end of the paddle about 6 inches long and wipe off the underside of the strings upwards and this gets the worst residue off of sweat and skin from the underside. I do wipe my strings off when I play. To get the bottom side of the strings, I just put the rag under the strings, lift up, and run it along the bottom of the strings. Even with that they will still turn black after a while.

| Keenan, curious if the strings you are talking about are D'Adarrio strings? Was just reading in the internet this morning that they had a major problem with their strings being counterfeited. The problems described with the counterfeits are similar to what you described. Wish I could find that link again for the article. |
