Take a keyboard player since steel players don't want work

Post by W. C. Edgar »

Since I've tried for 6 months to find a steel player in the midwest that can actually play and is not a hacker or owner and not screw up every song on the list including Merle Haggard stuff that every steel player should know I may be able to use a good keyboard player that has the hammond, leslie B3 sound on his unit so I can do all my Steve Earle stuff on the road. Seems everyone out there has some kind of a hangup either psycho girlfriend or wife that that so insecure mentally and either wants to travel with the band so her old man can't screw around on her or there's people with chemical dependency
problems or attitude problems or all of the above. What happened to the day when there were steel players on every corner ready to pick? To others its all about the money, the average money in Nashville or Austin is $100-$150 a show if you're not with a big artist and some guys will say hell I can't play for that and sit home and bitch about how much money they don't have. Thats the same reason the Country is in the shape its in. People need to get off their asses and do something for themselves instead of sitting around bitching about the government and waiting on one man to change things overnight. I used to play with Ty England and drove 225 miles each way every week for 3 years and got no fuel money for it but I did write it off and came out good on my taxes.

I've had the opposite problem for the past forty years. I've been trying to find a 5/6 piece band in the UK that would rehearse and do the job properly. I've had to resort to sitting in and playing for nothing when I can find a half decent band - just for the hell of it.

I feel for ya bro. All these so called players that say they want to work the road and then they tell ya they have a big mortgage, two car payments, a kid in college and a mrs they can't keep stisfied. Damn I wouldn't want to be in their shoes! They should have me send them a gun and one bullet to put them out of their misery. Ha! :D
