Topic: Fair value for 2 different lap steels? |

I have 2 lap steels I'm considering selling : Oahu Tonemaster 6 string in good condition with hardcase and a Framus 8 string with 3 legs and hardcase in excellent condition. I believe the Tonemaster is of '50's vintage and I'm not sure on the Framus - possibly 50's or 60's. Does anyone know what the fair value for these would be?

I can't help you on the Framus, but Tonemasters have been going for $250- $425 over the last while, maybe a bit less in the current economic climate. That one looks very nice- I have one and it's one of my favorite guitars.

| I think it's in pretty good shape for it's age. I'm actually looking to sell both the Tonemaster and the Framus so that I can get a decent pedal steel. When I bought the Framus, I was told that it was pretty rare. But, I guess the fair value is only what the market will bear. I'm just not sure what that is mainly for the Framus. |

There's a Framus just like that an eBay.de right now, about to cross the 250 EU-line. (they rarely go for much more around here).
It sure is a rarity in the US, but I doubt there's a great collector's value to it.
The string changing device (and what players can do with it) is worth mentioning in advertising.
You might want to look up French/Vietnamese player Le Tam via the forum, who uses it "live" in slow tunes. |
