Who was the steel guitarist on the Fox News Channel this morning between 9 & noon? He was in the Tanya Tucker band and was playing a SD-12 black Emmons. I know that a guy who used to play a S-12 Emmons worked with her at one time who's last name was Rich. I can't remember his first name but he was also a very good lead guitarist. Was this the same guy? If so he's a bit heavier that he was the last time I saw him play, but then again, I'm heavier since the last time I played........JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

I believe there was a John Rich that played steel and lead for the Oak Ridge Boys way back when they sang Gospel exclusively, he was a good picker. He played steel with a Tele strapped on, and he could switch pretty quickly. Might this be him? I guess he would be 55-60 years old by now. _________________ Darvin Willhoite
MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, a restored MSA Classic SS, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Also a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored Rose S10, named the "Blue Bird". Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also have a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks, and a showroom condition Sho-Bud Super Pro. |

It was me, said I. Yes, I also play guitar (but never w/ The Oaks) and the Steel I played was my original (short key-head) LeGrande 10 string E-9th Loafer. ("By Mennon") I'll bet it looked pretty on TV.... it had to look better than I did that time of day! |

Whew, Loren and John don't sound very similar. Wonder what ever happened to John Rich of the Oaks? Hadn't thought of him in years. I have an Oaks band instrumental album that john played on, I'll have to get it out and play it again. _________________ Darvin Willhoite

Loren,
How did you get that Dobro effect? It sounded like the real deal. |

Great job on the Tanya show, Loren!
My buddy Loren is a great steel guitar and guitar player. His creativity always amazes me any time we have set down to pick. He pretty well sent me packing at the NSGA show we played together just a few months ago.
By the way, Loren, didn't you also play on the new Tracy Lawrence Gospel album, too?
