I recorded this clip yesterday here at my home
studio using a six string lap steel arrangement
with no pedals.
The set up is standard 6 string C6:
Low to high: C--E--G--A--C--E
The songs are If You Love Me and I Just Destroyed
The World.
I guess the fact that I am a Pedal Player helps
in being able to transfer the "feel" and phrasing
to a little lap steel played across the knees?

Roy, I thoroughly enjoyed your two songs and as always, you did a wonderfully sweet and smooth performance. Always, music at its best.
QUESTION: WHAT, in your opinion, drives so many steel players these days, to want to make an electric Hawaiian lap steel sound like a pedal steel and/or a make pedal steel sound like an electric Hawaiian lap steel? Billy Robinson, comes to mind, but there are others of course, like yourself, in this instance.
Is it the mechanical challenge to one's mind? Just to see if it can be done?
Just tho't you might share your views on the subject. |

Thanks Ray for your interest.
In response, simply put in my case, it is the
challenge and the thrill of perhaps playing the
instrument another way aside from traditional
approaches.
I also enjoy the feel of the music without
the use of knee levers and floor pedals.
Having sad that, my pedal steel is close at hand
altho I do not play it as much as I used to.
Kindest Regards,
Roy _________________ Custom Tabs Various Tunings

Maybe they only play pedal steel and want to include some Hawaiian numbers in their repertoire, or vice-versa. I may be wrong, but I suspect that there are more people playing C6 on the near neck of their D10 than those playing C6 on lap steels. |
