Dave, thanks for the info. I just bought some.....I bought a Rondo SX lap awhile back and the only thing I ended up keeping was the body anyway. Well, and the case. Really I thought the case was the best part of the deal..... I replaced the bridge, tuners pickup etc. Now I will have a few bodies to play with over the winter.

Gary,
I was hoping a forum member would get them. Post pictures once you modify them. I like seeing how folks have customized the Rondo Laps.
I have two Rondos, only mods I made were to put on rail pickups, remove the tone and volume controls as well as removing the cover. I am happy with them.
Yea, the case is a good one.
Enjoy your new projects! |

I will post pics in a month or two when everything comes together. I will be ordering a Dusenberg Multi Bender from Rockinger for one of them. The others..... who knows? I have a couple of old P-90's hanging around the garage. Kurt must have more than a few stripped bodies at Rondo. I guess he was pulling parts off of them to fix problems with others. I see the ad is still up. 3 bodies for 75.00. I can't make them that cheap.

Mark, I forgot to ask if the fretboard came with them. I assume that it does. The bodies should be here next week. I guess I will find out then. If not, someone here on the forum (Dennis Brooker???) has a veneer type fret board that he fabricates to whatever scale is needed, so it shouldn't be a major problem. My plan is to fill the bridge mounting holes and go with a
"string-thru" type bridge..... might also contact Kurt again and see if he has any "extra" cases laying around.

UPDATE.
The bodies have arrived and they look great. As he said few minor scratches and / or dings.... but you really have to look to find them for the most part. All had fret boards, and nuts, one had a case with it and there were enough extra parts to make one whole lap steel except for the tuners. I received one natural, one white, and one black. Great deal for 75.00
I am happy.... I just emailed Kurt and asked if he had more but unfortunately he is out.

Usually when a manufacturer sells off remaining parts it's an indication that the line has been discontinued. Does this mark an end to Rondo lap steels ?
They were great instruments for the money, and I have three of them, but what a shame they weren't built as 8-strings. |

I doubt these are discontinued. I think he just had some extra bodies lying around, as described earlier, from guitars that were parted out to replace other broken parts. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel
