How tall are you and how tall is your seat? I am trying to help a new player get started and he had some questions about how the guitar should fit him relative to his seat. I really did not have a good answer other than the way I sit is just what came natural over a number of years. If anyone that teaches can shed some light on this topic would be very helpful to him. Thanks in advance.

He is about 5'10 and his guitar is 26 inches from the floor to the bottom appron. How high of a seat should he look for? Mine is 21 inches and he said it felt to tall. I think he might just be used to sitting very low at the guitar.

Hi Kenny, I would think the heights that you mention
should be right for his size. Like you said he is
probably more used to using a lower profile chair.
I'm 5'8" and use the same heights as you do, but I feel
my steel could be an inch lower to make the knee levers
more comfortable. Ron Lashly told me the same thing.
If the seat is too low, knee levers are harder to use,
especially if you've got any vertical knee levers.
I suggest he use yours a little, and get the feel of it.

I am 5' 10" tall. When I first got my pack a seat, I thought it was too tall because I was use to sitting in a chair. After I got use to the new height, I found that it was much better, less stress on the arms, I could see the fret board better, and it was more comfortable to use the knee levers. Glad I didn't saw a inch or two off the legs...
