Hey guys, my WS band the Lone Star Retrobates will be in Fairfax California this Sunday the 18th of October. Last month a mess of saddle pals came by to sit in: Melissa Collard, Pam Brandon and Lonesome Don Burnham. Here's some band description copy and directions:
The Lonestar Retrobates (formerly The Lone Star Band) has been so well received at their recent appearances at the 19th Broadway Niteclub in Fairfax that owner Gary Graham has asked the group to appear on a regular basis. Their unique fusion of retro swing and West Coast Cowjazz— where Ella Fitzgerald meets Bob Wills, and jive cattle moo indigo—will be featured on the third Sunday afternoon of every month.
Past regular members have included Texas Playboy steel guitarist Vance Terry, Texas Drummer Boy Johnny Cuviello, and other local luminaries like Tony Marcus, Piper Heisig, Steve Strauss, Bill Wilson, Bruce Stelter and Bryan Gaudchaux.
Other regular performers have included Don Burnham of Lost Weekend and Lonesome Chuck Wheeler. The band has backed up Fred and Rose Maddox, Rusty Warren (Sons of the Pioneers), and Patsy Montana, and has played festivals from Seattle to Grass Valley to San Diego, the California State Fair and many county fairs and TV appearances, as well as headlining The Grand National Rodeo at the Cow Palace.
Trail Boss Mylos “Boogie” Sonka has played Grand Ole Opry road shows with Bill Monroe, toured with mandolinist great Frank Wakefield, and co-founded both Lone Star and the bluegrass band High Country. He has performed with Dale Watson, Bill Kirchen, Dan Hicks, the Bob Wills Texas Playboys, Hot Rize, Lost Weekend, and many others.
The current Lonestar Retrobates members consist of Mylos Sonka: pedal steel, fiddle, vocs, trailbossing; Kevin McConnell: guitar and vocs; BE Adams: the best WS singer in the West; Greg Dunn: doghouse bass; Bing Nathan: drums; Fiddle Ray Landsberg: fiddle and raconteuring; bandleader Ray "Idaho Slim" Green on trumpet and vocs.
And the LS Retrobates are welcoming their newest member, bandleader Ken "Snakebite" Jacobs: tenor sax and clarinet.
The Lonestar Retrobates’ downbeat will be at 3 PM on Sunday, October 18th at the 19th Broadway Niteclub in Fairfax and we hope to see you all there.
