I recently picked up a stomp box that I was told was a Bo-Bro. It says B0-Bro on it. However, when I compared it to the one on Bobbe's demo video, it doesn't look the same at all. It really looks like a Boss EQ pedal. All the sliders etc...... I was told that the earlier units had these but the new ones no longer have the sliders. Can anyone help me out with some info, pictures, etc... I feel like I may be getting burned here.

It's probably best to talk with Bobbe on that one. Mine has no sliders, but it is definately just a Boss EQ pedal that he modified and removed the controls. Let me take a pic of mine, and I'll post it in a minute or so.
Here ya go

I suspect that if your carefully pry off the cover plate that says B-B-5, you will find the sliders of a GE-7 have been set to a staggered mode, alternating between all the way down and all the way up. The far right slider is a level control and is set in the middle. Once the sliders have been set in the down/up pattern, they are cut with a pair of dykes so they are fixed and then covered over. I'm not sure what else, if anything, gets done. |

There are some other mods that have to be done and some values on the electronic parts changed.
this particular unit that just sold on Ebay and Robby has,I have never seen. It is not one of the Brobos that I do.
However, since Howard and Robby are great old friends of mine, if I get this bogas unit in my posession, I'll be gald to send a new BoBro unit to replace it.
thank you Robbie

I have to believe Bobbe when he says he makes other mods. I own a Boss GE-7 and tried to duplicate the Bo-Bro sound and could not get it right, close but no cigar. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Richard, since you have both a Bo-Bro and a GE-7, why don't you open both up and compare the electronics to see what changes have been made, if it's possible to tell. At least maybe we could get the true clue about Bobbe's mod. Maybe he should call it the MAX-Bro or the Bro-tone mod. |

In Bobbes video he states that he changes the chip and some other components. |

I don't think it would be ethical to disclose any changes that Bobbe made. No more than taking say, a Revelation preamp, and posting a schematic and instructions on how to make one. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . People who sell pedal modifications commonly list exactly what is done and what the effects of the changes are. Schematics for nearly every effect ever made are commonly available online. There is a difference between a modifcation to an existing product and something like the revelation preamp.
Here is the $55 mod from analogman
"The GE-7 is a very popular EQ pedal. But it can add some noise if you move the sliders. Even bringing the two lowest sliders DOWN will add noise, try it! Our mod replaces three chips with the King of Tone chip, which is a low noise chip designed for tone controls so it's perfect in this application. We also change a bunch of cheap capacitors used for tone control to high grade metal film caps. This lowers noise and improves tone. Thanks to the people on the diystompboxes forum who posted info on modding this pedal. We used their ideas and just tweeked it a bit to make it the best sound for the price. We can modify the old or new GE-7 pedals."
I am fine with Bobbes explanation as it stands in his video. The BoBro is too expensive for me personally anyway. |
