I am looking at a Peavey TKO75. Has anyone tried it, is it a good amp for the steel guitar? Its quite heavey, cabinet scared up a little. I have not tried it yet. Would appreciate any comments from anyone who has owned or used one. Also what is the value of it today if you have knowledge of the going rate. Thanks again for any info. |

The TKO is a bass amp as I recall. Reasonably powerful, 75w into 8 ohms, ported, closed back cabinet. I believe it has the Scorpion speaker [or Sheffield depending on the year] v. the Black Widow. Would probably work for steel, but neither the eq nor the speaker is voiced for it and it doesn't have reverb.
I can only guess they would probably sell in the $150 range perhaps less.
I found some info from Peavey's site here where they show a Blue Marvel speaker. They've been making this amp for many years, so the value may also depend on which version you have. http://www.peavey.com/products/browse.cfm/action/detail/cat/469/item/102066/number/00453810/TKO%26reg%3B115.cfm
I had one of the early ones as my first steel amp. It let me hear myself while I was struggling at the bottom of the learning curve. When I traded up to a LTD steel guitar amp, the difference was like nite and day. |
