Does anyone know anything about this steel?

The photo appears on Liberty Divitto's Facebook Wall. He would like to get any information about the instrument he can.
Liberty Divitto was Billy Joel's drummer for many years and happens to have gone to high school with my brother. Being one of Liberty's Facebook friends and knowing I play pedal steel, my brother asked me for help. I don't know much about pedal-less steels and so I am coming to the one place I know where folks will have the collective brains and experience to solve this mystery.
Any help appreciated. _________________ Alan Pagliere

Looks like a variant of the National "New Yorker" 8 (the shield near the bottom is probably the National logo).
AND Liberty was/is a GREAT drummer. Saw him play many times. |

I believe that's a National Special, the eight-string version of the Dynamic, in its 1948-1958 form. |

Your brother went to Seaford High School w/ Liberty DeVitto? |
