Topic: C6 Copedent ???? |

I'm a bit puzzled. Any research I do for a single neck C6 copedent shows the first pedal as number 4.
1.) What's happened to pedals A, B, C are they reserved for E9th.
2.) How many pedals, knee levers would you suggest for a 10 string single neck?
3.) What would a good copedent be?
I've made a couple of C6 10 string laps steels over the past year and I'm thinking of jumping ship to a pedal steel. Perhaps I'm not looking in the proper spots. Any help would be appretiated. Thanks! Eldon |

Since there are very few S-10 C6 pedal steels, almost all C6 playing is on the back neck of a D-10. These guitars usually have 8 pedals and at least 4 knee levers. The first 3 pedals are for E9. Pedals 4 to 8 are for C6, and at least one knee lever works on both necks.
You should ideally have the basic 5 pedals and one knee lever, like in this (Jimmy Day's) copedent chart:

However, pedal 4 is rarely used by most C6 players, and a lot of them don't even have it, so you don't really need it. You may also want a lever to raise the high A to Bb, but it's not necessary. Also, if you decide to use a D as your first string, having a lever to raise your C's to C# is very useful. Again, you don't need it.
C6 pedal steel is a lot of fun, and much easier after you've played non-pedal steel, since you already know your way around the neck, and a lot of single-note stuff is played without the pedals, using just bar moves.

It would also be acceptable to reverse/switch LV & P1. Also, if you choose to put a (D) on #1, I would Raise it (½-tone) on P5, rather than P2. Actually, I would set it up exactly as in the above chart, however; I would have 6P's! P6 would Raise String #6 (½-tone) from [E] to [F].
