I just spoke to my son, who is in college up in Dallas. He said that this morning, when he turned on his computer, it took about 10 minutes for Windows XP to load. He checked his email and then shut down the computer before heading out to class. When he got back a little while ago, he turned on the computer again and the same thing happend as early this morning. It took alomost 10 minutes for Windows to load. He said all was fine yesterday. He also said that everything seems to be operating just fine, once it finally gets loaded.

Any ideas?

Lee, from South Texas

Well, it looks like Logan figured it out! Here is what he said in a recent email to me:

Hey dAd,

Here is how I fixed my computer problem:

1. Put the Windows XP setup disk in the CD drive and restart computer.
2. Once the Windows Setup welcome screen loaded, press "r" for the Recovery Console.
3. Select which Windows installation to log into, in my case I pressed "1"
4. Enter Admin password, by default it is created blank so just press Enter.
5. In the command prompt type fixboot and press enter.
6. Type "y" to write a new bootsector
7. Type "exit" to leave the setup and restart computer, then removed Windows XP CD.

Windows loaded normally without any hiccups!

(Your bootsector problem must be something different, but:)
Lots of people have reported BSOD and instant shutdowns today, after allowing automatic Windows Updates last night. It only happened once here today, my first BSOD in years.
