Every time I go to STL my carryon gets checked by TSA because
of my steel bar and picks!
I carry all kinds of electronic equipment, chargers, etc that look far
more menacing than a plain steel bar but they red flag the bar all the time
and I have to explain it to them and believe me, they don't have a
clue!
I haven't run into one checker yet who knows what I'm talking about
"it's used to play a steel guitar" "What??" "How?" "Sir, please step
over here...." _________________ Sierra S10 (three!), Peavey 112 and 115, Benoit dobro, Beard Model E dobro, Beard Roadophonic, MSA Superslide, Dean Nickless custom dobro |

I carried 30 to St. Louis on an airplane a few years ago - the only thing that saved me was a photo of me playing holding one.
The next question was 30? - I showed them the internet print out of the show and told them I sold them and that was the day I found out why you need to be at the airport 2 hours ahead of time.
I was the last one on the flight.
It is the round nose and they said it looked like a bullet - so I ask what caliber and I had 4 different diameters
So you were not the first _________________ Joe Naylor, Avondale, AZ (Phoenix) Announcer/Emcee owner www.steelseat.com *** OFFERING SEATS AND Effects cases with or without legs and other stuff ****** -Desert Rose Guitar S-10, Life Member of the Arizona Carport Pickers Assoc., Southwest Steel Guitar Assoc., Texas Steel Guitar Assoc., GA Steel Guitar Assoc., KS Steel Guitar Assoc. I flew home from St Louis several years ago with several sets of new strings, a tuner, and a new bar. I was held at security while they thoroughly searched my bag. I can see how all of those coiled wires, "some sort of weird electronic device", and the bar raised a few eyebrows going through the xray machine. |

Hi, I guess that's a problem that's not going to go away, security being what it is......

Here is a song by fellow forumite Fred Kinbom about this very problem of security staff and steel guitar bars - I just got his new album, heard it on there, found it here on youTube too. Made me smile anyway! |
