New John Hughey Tribute CD feathruing John Hughey

Post by Mike Headrick »

Several of my CDs have been tributes, but they’ve all been about music. This CD is more about about emotion and paying homage to a friend as well as his music. I look at a "tribute" as a way of keeping special memories alive, and I hope this effort accomplishes that for you for a long time to come, as it will for me. John has recorded with me for several years and needless to say, I always had a ball when he came to the studio. He always played great, but I had the opportunity to record some exceptional, classic John Hughey over the years. Jean Hughey and I agree that it needs to be heard. I have picked some nice tracks that John played on and then I played where he didn’t. My mission was to play the melody and then get out of John’s way. As you can see, some are classics and others are originals. It wasn’t easy to settle on this specific playlist, as I had to pass over some other really great recordings. Maybe I can release another similar CD at a later date.

This new CD and Rhythm Tracks are now available on my website, and they’ll be available in St. Louis at my booth (3rd on the right at the bottom of the escalator) and Jean will also have them at the John Hughey booth.

Mike,

I sure hope you can find a way to put it all out. We'd love to have all the John Hughey gems available. Thanks for doing this.

Your humble friend in Bass,

Bill

Bill,

I hope to have another CD ready for Dallas in March. You've heard the plumber scenario, how his pipes always leak and are the last to get fixed. Since I'm in the recording business, my own CD projects are always the last in line. I really want to get more of the "John Hughey Gems" out at some time in the future. I only wish I'd had him play more.

That's ok, Mike. We'll take what you have and be thankful that it's available.

John has gone on to the big session in the sky. When we join him one day, just think of all the great stuff he will have laid down up there that we can enjoy. Do you think they'll let him play a little C6 up there?
