San Antonio Jams

Several steel guitar pickers and I have talked of starting a monthly steel guitar jam session in San Antonio. I have spoken to 17 different players that say they would be interested in playing together at jam sessions. This would not be limited to just San Antonio players.
We will need to talk about a place and program. I personally want to keep it family oriented where all families will be welcomed and enjoy the fellowship and good music. Jody Sanders and Billy and Patty Phelps have a good jam most months in Katy with sometimes a dozen players performing. They have a teaching segment of about 15 minutes for the picker like myself that need all the instruction we can get and then each player will play a song and if time permits a second song. Then a featured player will perform for 20-30 minutes and then a round robin. Katy jams always have a bass player and rhythm guitar player so we need to cultivate a back up band. Then close up. Katy jams have a box for contributions to defray expenses for the church they use.
Anyone with ideas about meeting halls please speak up. Also we don't want to interfere with the Katy jam on the first Sunday of the month or with Ken Metcalfs jam which is the second Sunday of the month, so we could do ours the third Sunday of the month. This is all in the planning stage so please join in on the planning of these jams...Joe Rouse

Thank you my Brother Jody. We would appreciate you being with us on the kickoff. I have always enjoyed yours and Billy and Patty Phelps work putting on jam sessions in Katy. As you said ...keep the steel guitar Brotherhood together is a good way to put what we're trying to do. I might be able to get the cook to make some more brownies.
Keep in touch Brother. You are in our prayers...jr

If you need me let me know I will be happy to come to your jam session. Been to many and performed in between the performers setting up. I have also done the openning ceremonies with an inspirational speech.

I just got back from Scotty's convention in St. Louis and had a great time performing and meeting the wonderful folks there.

Hey if you want me let me know.

Hey John, Jason, and Cayla,
We have still another place to look at and do some visiting with the powers that be for our first jam. I will let you know as soon as we know for sure.
Jason, you don't know what sounding bad is until you've heard me, no words describe some of the sounds I get out of my psg but someday it will all fall into place and I'll have to go buy another psg.
Cayla, thanks for the offer and I'll let you know when the jams start happening....jr

I looked at a facility this morning and also at a church and no luck. The first facility was a senior citizen center that would have been perfect but not open on Sundays. The next was a church that has what we need but leases out their fellowship hall to still another church. We are going to continue looking and asking. I was in hopes we would have a location for a meeting this month but now we'll shoot for the third week of October. I will keep you all informed and THANK YOU for your interest...jr
