I own a Magnum and really like the ease if the pedal and knee lever action. To those who have owned or played the Madnum and Carter, is the pedal and knee lever action the same since Magnum is made by Carter. Any comments appreciated.

Ray, I presently have 2 Carters. But recently sold a Magnum. The feel between the Carter and Magnum is identical. I could play one or the other blindfolded and not tell tha difference. Under the hood there are minor differences, but a Magnum is a Carter all the way. The thing I like about them is that the travel and resistance of all the pedals and knees is very similar...so very easy to play.

I used to own a older steel of nearly mythical reverence here on the forum. When I got the 1st Carter I almost never played said older brand because it felt mechanically like driving an old school bus compared to driving a Ferrari IMHO.

At the jam that I host, one of my buddies who plays another older brand, has played my Carter a few times. His comment every time he gets up is "if I owned that guitar I could play REALLY fast".

So that is my impression being a Carter owner and former Magnum owner. There are many wonderful steel guitar brands and makers and I don't feel that one brand is the one and only "best". I am sure I would be thrilled to own many of them. I just happen to be very happy with what I do play.

Hope that helps with your question....Jim

I've owned several of both Carter & Magnum guitars. I prefer the Carter over the Magnum. However, either one will get the job done. Just depends on what a player is looking for.
