As some of you are already aware,Jim Murphy, steeler for "Asleep At The Wheel",is undergoing chemo treatments for non-Hodgkins lymphoma cancer. Some of the gang at N.T.S.G.A. is getting together a benefit,to help defray "sky-rocketing" medical expenses.
The benefit will be held at the "Long Hollow Jamboree Hall" in Hendersonville,Tn.,on June 27,at 7:00 pm. The final performers list is not quite "locked-in" as of this notice, but we should have some pretty good "names" performing. So far,Bob Payne & the Nashville Knights(the L.H.J.staff band),The Time Jumpers(Station Inn Band),& "Cigars & Cataracts"(KILLER local band) have committed.
Updates,as we get closer to the "day".
If you,or anyone you know, that can't make the show, would like to make a monetary donation, you may do so,by sending your donation to:
(information corrected)

James W. Murphy Benefit Foundation Account
P.O.Box 17965
Antioch,Tn. 37217

Or,if your in Tn.go by any Union Planters Bank branch & tell them that it's for the above.
Any donation, big or small,is greatly appreciated. Let's all see if we can help out this GREAT guy,& brother steeler. Thanx to y'all,in advance.

Went & saw "Big Murph" perform w/ A.A.T.W. tonight,at Opry Plaza. He "debuted" his new Bethel T-10 w/ no pedals. Picked flawlessly, as usual. I asked him how he felt. He said he felt fine, except for tiring real easy. The chemo treatments have had their "usual" results. Loss of hair. However,Murph is taking it all in stride. He was wearing one of those ball caps that said,"Bad Hair Day",& had a built-in pony tail. Totally cracked me up when he took his cap off,& the pony tail went w/ it. Murph's doin' great, considering he,also, had open-heart surgery, about 5 yrs. ago. Talk about a guy w/ a STRONG CONSTITUTION.....!! Let's see if we can support this guy morally AND financially. On behalf of Murph,& the N.T.S.G.A.,thanx for all your help & support. Hope to see a bunch of y'all at his benefit, next Thur. (6/27)

I happened to be flipping through the channels last night and saw Murph with Asleep At The Wheel on CMT's MWL. I thought it must have been a rerun as Murph looked and sounded great! Never guessed he had a fake ponytail either. The Bethel looked and sounded super too, and I loved the front panel "decoration"!

If you have time to make it to the benefit for Murph, please make plans to attend. However, if you cannot attend, please consider sending in a donation -- no matter how big or small, it will be appreciated. Let's all do what we can for this very talented gentleman.

Went down tonight (Mon.),& caught the "Time Jumpers",at the Station Inn. They were great, as usual. Ran into Bruce Boutin. He introduced me to Robert Randolph. They, each, donated $20 for Murph's cause. Thanx guys.

Insurance policies adhere to,,,,if you get bumped in the rear,,the "bumper gets the blame,,not the "bumpee",,,so watch your rear there Roberts,,,you may be a millionaire yet.

Keep your seat belt fastened and your shorts on,,,make certain they are clean,,in the event the nurses want to take a "look see"

Drive Safely,,,,good thread,,,hope you achieve what you set out to do....Good Luck to JM.........

Last time I saw Big Jim, he was working with Jeannie C. Harper Valley PTA. Maybe she would appear. I tried to turn my left foot like he did and get four pedals at once on C6th. I wasn't drinking but I sure got sick at what I heard from my guitar. Never could figure out how he got his to sound so far out and I told Jeannie she'd better hang onto Jim. To my way of thinking he was right up there with all those big guys, including Wally too !!

Regards, Paul
