I have been a pedal steel player for about 40 days now - have taken my Carter starter to 2 gigs and it went real well. Obviously not burning down the barn with the PSG just yet.
I purchased the Carter starter brand new and there are 3 bad tuners on it. When you change directions (to sharp or flatten) you have to turn it about 120 degrees before it starts tuning the string. So while on hold with Musicians friend getting an RMA - I surfed and saw the Magnum. I did some research and saw they are made by Carter and have gotten very good reviews here on the forum so I purchased a red model that should be here Friday.

I bought the D10 - MSRP is 3995, they sell for 2899.

I am excited!!! I havnt had a new instrument since I bought my B bender Tele from Musician friend prolly 10 years ago (I think?)

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. I feel like I know some of you guys becuase I have been reading your posts and tabs (Greg).
I will put some pics up. I am hoping that it arrives Friday. I got an email this morning stating that it has shipped. I also got the tracking # but it isnt in UPS system yet. It will prolly update tonight.

Also, I had someone email me, I am sending the carter starter back to MF for full refund and it isnt for sale.

Thanks again,
Don

Magnum is a great guitar. Probably the most underrated or maybe undiscovered guitar out there.

Some time back, there was a discussion about WHAT motivates a steel player to buy one brand or another.

Just curious, if you don't mind sharing........
WHAT single factor moved you toward the direction of your purchase?

Company reputation?
Mechanics underneath?
Pretty to look at?

You took me by surprise. Why, if your Carter came with three bad tuners on it, would you then think that the fact that Magnum is manufactured by Carter equals a good reason for buying one?

(I've never played a Carter or a Magnum; people rave about the Magnums the way we rave about everything on this Forum; I saw a Carter Starter in my local music store and it seemed as flimsy as a piece of brittle toast, but their pro models are no doubt good enough. I'm just intrigued by your reasoning...)

So you wouldn't buy a Corvette if you had a bad experience with a Chevette?

also, the tuners on the magnum are Grover, the tuners on the starter were - elcheapo!

These 2 instruments dont seem to be related at all.
