Ok I will try this, Im 47 and started out on drums then whent on to learn guitar . I cut my teeth on my parents old 45s . My musical influences are Elvis , the Beatles ans too many other rock n roll artists. My country influences are George Jones , Merle Haggard, Wynn Stewert and too many others to list. I started out playing in clubs in 1980.I was a drummer for a while. Then whent to guitar , My brother and I had a band through the 90s .We played all over northeast Okla.We always wanted a steel player but could never find one , so in 1990 I bought a used shobud d10 pro and learned how to play. I have played for a few famous artists.I have also played the Astrodome with Rich McCready in 2006.and other openers. Its realy a love of labor and determination to tame this Beast called the pedal steel!! I am 50 years of age (soon to be 51 in November) and I've been playing for 30 year in September. I originally started out as a bass player for a man in Baton Rouge when I was 18 years old, I played bass for him in Country/Rock band for a year and a half. Then one I told him I wanted to be a steel guitar player. When I told him that it floored him because I had a naturaltalent for the bass. I played steel for him from 1978-1982 off and on. From 1980 to 1981 I lived in Tyler and Athens, Texas, where at the time the steel guitar was the hottest thing going. I had the opportunity to hear some really great players to hone my craft. In 1982 the band I was playing in, in Baton Rouge decided that they did not need a steel anymore so they let me go. I was out of playing for a while, but I never quit keeping up with my playing.Later on in '82 I was playing in church on Sunday morning and Wednesday night services. In 1984 I hooked with a band at a Pentecostal church up until 1986, when I hooked up with another Gospel group that played on Sunday mornings,I did that gig until 1988. Then I hooked up with a co-worker that had a Country band. I played with him off and on over the next five years, Then I got let go. I have also done some charity work and I have opened as a singer/performer for a local performer that I met doing open-mics, in Baton Rouge.Around 1988 I worked for a young that is currently up in Nashville, his name is Josh Brister, I worked with him twice for 6 months at a time. I have picked up little side jobs here and there. In 1996 I was able to play on my first album.I met this guy that did karaoke at one of the local venues on Saturday nights,he told of a friend that had a studio. Friend was recording this man that was black who sang Country Music. The guy he was pushing him said that this guy could be another Charlie Pride. This guy was GOOOOOD! I remember walking into the studio and after stting my gear up to play, I heard this man sing. Believe me this guy could sing. I enjoyed doing the session.Because the man producing the session told me to use my imagination. I failed to mention back in the early 90's I worked for a guy that was a Merle Haggard wanna be. I mean every song on our song list was a Haggard song. Don't get me wrong; I like the Hag. But this guy turned me off. Because he would not listen to me or the other guys in the band about and adding some variety to list.
I have also done some work with a local Southern Gospel Music group and I am currentlly doing some studio work, for fellow forumite Cleat Wooley at his studio in Denham Springs, La. I have also had the opportunity to fill in for the steel player for David St. Romain, runner up in the Nashville Star competition back in 1999. I always knew David had what it takes, That was real pleasure to work for him.
Even if it were for one night.
