HELLO EVERYONE- I HAVE AN EARLY VALCO LAP (SINGLE VOL. POT-NO TONE POT)TUNED TO OPEN E AND I CANNOT CURE THE E BASS STRING WHICH SOUNDS FLAPPY(DISTORTED) AND MUDDY- THE 5 OTHER STRINGS RING LIKE A BELL!I HAVE CHECKED NUT- REPLACED STRING ETC. AS IT SOUNDS O.K. UNPLUGGED I WONDER IF IT MAY BE ELECTRICAL!-EVEN THOUGH THE OTHER 5 ARE CRISP AND CLEAR!!!-IT IS HARD WIRED VIA EXTERNAL LEAD COMING FROM VOL. POT AND ORIGINAL CLOTH COVERED WIRE&PLUG-ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED DAVE IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA

I'm afraid I only have questions rather than answers.
Does the pickup have adjustable poles, and could the low E string pole be too high?
Is the replacement low E string a large diameter? A thinner guage might tame the muddiness somewhat. |

Could even be a bronze-wound rather than Stainless or nickel..
Open E tuning MIGHT suggest ACOUSTIC strings.. |

THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO REPLY GUYS- HAVE SCREWED PICKUP POLE FLUSH WITH PICKUP- STRING IS STEEL- NOT BRONZE- AM ABOUT TO TRY THINNER GAUGE - AS THIS IS APPROX. 54-56-WILL REPORT BACK A.S.A.P. DAVE IN SUNNY SOUTH AUSTRALIA(HA HA!)

| I have several Supros. That problem is usually screw height. Be very careful adjusting these if there is corrosion, you can easily shear off the screw head. (I have done that.) These pickups are very sensitive to proximity. Try the supercharged magnets- Rick Aiello or Jason Lollar cant remember which right now. Really beefs up the sound and improves balance overall. |
