I know that most any given song can be played on more than one tuning, and that steel players have more tunings than strings, but I've been wondering what is the most commonly used tuning for playing the beautiful song entitled "Sand"? I've heard JB and others play it beautifully with pretty much the same chords and phrasing but I don't know what tuning/s they used. ?????

It's usually played on B11 tuning. The entire song can be played on 6-strings. Here's my take on it ---> SAND

This link points to a page on my site devote to the song Sand and the tuning used for it.

It also contains a video of Jerry Bryd performing Sand live with Hawaiian Band

AND

Contains the TAB to the song in yet another cool tuning: A9, which is more obscure, yet in my opinion just as cool sounding, if not better because of the new chord voicings that one can achieve.

Enjoy, and welcome to "Sand" Laughing

Josh

Thanks for the help, everyone!! I play several tunings but I've never tackled B11 or A9. Maybe its time. Again, thanks!
