Latest thoughts re: ultra low watt amps?

Post by John Bushouse »

I know in the past people have mentioned the Roland Microcube and one of the Vox amps for low watt amps with reverb and other effects, the goal to have good tone at conversational volumes (or just enough volume to play with some acoustic guitars playing in a living room).

Has anybody done some comparisons recently?

Thanks,
John

John,

I own a Micro-Cube and also a Street-Cube. I looked at all the micro style amps I could find including the little Vox and bought the Micro-Cube. The effects on these units are great as is the amp modeling. The battery power option is very handy for travel and I even take them out on the boat to jam at the lake while parked in a cove. I bought the Street-Cube because it also has a mic input channel. Very handy for a quick jam in the park when you want to hear some vocs.

Tone is quite good at low volumes. Tone is modeled not a funtion of volume as with little tube amps. Battery life is excellent with both units. My Micro-Cube is well traveled and has been to Vegas, Ohio, Arizona, the Carolinas and Japan on business trips along with a travel guitar or lap steel.

Best,

Rich

i bought a micro cube a few years ago and it has been all over the place with me and is a handy little device and has a decent tone at the low volume. i used it as a preamp recently for running to the board at the play i did steel parts for and i got a lot of compliments on the sound...wise buy for the price if you ask me...
