Hi all, I currently own a Session 500 and I'm cosidering purchasing a new Webb amp with the kappalite speaker by Eminence. I'm in a dileama because I have a choice here, do I stick with the Eminence or do I go for a JBL E-130 which is 15 pounds heavier! or a Peavey Black Widow neodymium. Has anyone done a comparison with the Black Widow against the other 2? Mr Tom Bradshaw has kindly done a comparison with the Eminence and the JBL E-130. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Dave. Question Surprised

I played a Blackjack through one at Seymours shop with the Eminence. It sounded REALLY good. But, I havn't played one with a JBL. My Session 400 and Evans have JBL's. I have just got the Evans going, but it sounds good. I like JBL's, and I guess my dad did since I inherited his amps and all but the 500 has them. I'd say it would be difficult to get a good comparison because there aren't many of those amps around, but the Eminence does sound really nice.

I recommended that Mr. Wheelhouse post his inquiry here on the Forum. I had previously posted that forum-member Billy Wilson and I had A/B'ed a JBL E-130 with an Eminence Kappalite. We both agreed that the JBL provided a bit more volume (even though it too was 8-ohms), but that difference could easily be compensated for by simply increasing the amp's volume a bit. We agreed that there was a slight difference in the tone from the Webb when switching between the two speakers, with both being very satisfactory. Billy and I further agreed that had we not had these speakers side-by-side, it was unlikely that ANYONE could identify which amp sound was the JBL or the Kappalite.

I would love to A/B the amp with a Black Widow neo speaker in a Webb amp's speaker chamber vs. a Kappalite in a like speaker chamber. Forumite David Scott owns one of my Webb amps with an extension speaker (it too has a speaker chamber). In his amp he has a JBL E-130 and in the extension cabinet he has a Kappalite. He tells me that this combination enhances the Webb's total sound. Perhaps he will see this post and express his opinion as to how this combination is more favorable than having just one brand of speaker from which to project the Webb amp's sound.

Obviously, someone can provide a comparison between a BW neo and a K-lite neo, but I wonder if it will be accurate without the comparision being made by installing both in separate Webb speaker-chamber cabinets(?). If I knew someone near me (in Northern California) who owned a BW neo, I could do it myself. If anyone can assist me in this, please let me know: [tommybradshaw@gmail.com]. ...Tom

Tom
If Dave does elect to buy a Webb with a Kappalite speaker, I will definitely A/B my amp (with 1501 Black Widow Neo speaker) with his.

As I have said before on here, I tried one of the Bradshaw Webb's at Bobbe Seymour's store a few weeks back. The Emminence speaker sounded pretty good to me. The only reasons why I bought my amp from you without a speaker was (a) to keep down the weight for shipping, and (b) that I had a spare B/W speaker that would slot straight into the amp. It is a killer amp for tone.

Hey Dave, I have a webb that used to have kind of a random JBL in it, it sounded good - then it blew out and I got a JBL E130. I love the E 130 - it sounds really great - if it blew I'd get another.

I always get compliments on the amp from other players, Webb's are real gem's.

good luck with your decision.

I played a new Webb with the Kappalite. It sounded very much like my 1978 Webb with the stock JBL E-130. I seriously doubt that I could tell the difference in anything but a very controlled environment.
