Somewhere in between a juicy summer cold and the (swine) flu I spent the last couple of days recording this for my Hendrix project:

Angel (Burning Of The Midnight Lamp)

It's only a rough mix that I just did, but I think it's pretty close to how I want it to sound.

The idea to mix Angel with the intro from Burning Of The Midnight Lamp is from Gil Evans' version on his 1975 album "Play The Music Of Jimi Hendrix". I heard a Norwegian jazz/fusion band do it sometimes in the mid 80s and it's stuck with me ever since...

Hope you'll enjoy it!

Cool
Steinar

It's in its finishing stages, I now have a deal with guitarist Tom Principato's "Powerhouse Records" and the plan is to have it available within the end of the year. Cool

Absolutely love it, Steinar.

Forgive the geek followup but I'd love a description of the fear--full signal chain, from what guitar to what fx to what amp. It is a great sound. Thanks for posting this!

The fear can't be described, but here's the gear Wink :

Asher Electro Hawaiian Junior (equipped with GFS Dream 90 P-90s) - Dunlop CryBaby wah (modded for a beefier tone) - Cmatmods SignaDrive overdrive - POD (set to a clean 'Twin' type amp).
That's it.. Cool

Gaaa! Yes, gear. GEAR.

Thanks. I love the complexity of the drive & the vowelly wah with the ringing harmonics. I'm listening to a lot of Sonny Landreth lately and my ears are tuned to these nuances. I also know that you can't just step on a wah and run with it. You control it beautifully.

Thanks!
I love to use the wah to shape the tone instead of just automatically rock it in time with the music (which can be cool too, on some stuff).

The Cmatmods SignaDrive is the most dynamic overdrive I've ever come across, can't recommend it enough!

Thanks so much Jamie, I'll let 'them' know! That would be Steinar "Picks" Gregertsen on guitars, Steinar "Bigbottom" Gregertsen on bass, and Steinar "Stix" Gregertsen on drum programming.... Laughing Laughing

Glad to hear the project's been moving along--I'd been wondering what happened to the progress updates, too.

The Burning of the Midnight Lamp intro is one of my favorites...nice add-on to this song. Looking forward to hearing the disc!

Love it! Great steel of course, but I want to give a special shout out for the backing track. Love the sound and playing of all the instruments.

Wow! That's even more impressive. It really sounds like a live band playing it. After the song gets to about 0:45 sec, it says the Artist is "Mike Hinch". Is that just a glitch?

Wow!One of my favorite Hendrix songs, from certainly my favorite Hendrix album - "The Cry of Love", not the padded "New Rays" reissue. That period of Hendrix is criminally under-represented in the repackaging and marketing of his ghost. Crying or Very sad Hey - are you going to rerecord the Guitar Snake Army from "Night Bird Flying?" Laughing There's only, like, five interlocking guitar solos....

I love it, Steinar! Great tone as usual.

And congrats on the Principato deal. Couldn't happen to a better guitarist.
