I´ve never seen a walnut Fender 1000.
Is this an original colour ?
The pedal board looks the same but shows NO Fender logo. Serial Number is 00502.

Bernhard, someone has apparently stripped the original finish off and sprayed on a clear finish.
The wood is ash.
I have a blonde one, but with a polished metal frame.
I believe they were all either blonde or sunburst finished. |

| Iv'e still got my Fender 1000 from the 60's. In the 70's I stripped it down and put an Antique darker Green finish on it and sealed it with Spar Deck Varnish. I was able to get a couple of new Fender Fret Boards for about ten bucks each. My finger picks had worn the paint off the originals. The guitar really looks pretty good. I will dig it out of the closet and post a picture. |

Hi Benny,
I bet this one is stripped and refinished with clear lacque. It is an early modell not even roller nut and bridge.
Have you seen that Bob's Fender 1000 now has a lower price tag.
Are you interested in a Fender 400 or in a 1000? I would trade (with compensation) my 400 for a 1000 but need 9 pedals.

I placed a search for a used Fender 1000 here a few weeks ago. But is was a bad time, there was a lot of money to pay for taxes and insurance at the end of the year so I dropped the offers.
In the meantime I have found this Fender 1000 here on ebay. It misses 2 pedals with 2 rods and 3 or 4 cables. Considering no costs for shipping, taxes and expences it was a good deal.
I was thinking that it is refinished, most of the screws shows some wear and the wire is taped.
But who knows, as I´ve never seen one with this finish I want to ask if it´s something special before I have a set up for my use and maybe even refinish it.

It's too late now, but I always stress doing your research BEFORE making a vintage guitar purchase. I've carefully done that with 6-strings for decades but didn't with my first few steels and it cost me a ton of aggravation and money.
FYI Fender never released natural-finish pedal steels. This is a stripped one. Is the underside bare as well?
How long ago did you get it? I can't find it in the closed auctions - I was hoping to see what pedals/cables and other parts were missing to provide some resources for you.

the bodys and the pedal board are completely stripped, it shows the finish all over.
Yeah, I have spent money in "learning about guitars" in the past but I´m happy about the Fender 1000. Price is right and it doesn´t matter that it´s refinished. I was looking for a guitar to use and maybe leaving it in the bandroom till the next gig. I would have a bad feeling about this with my other guitars so this is right and for the few tone changes I need, it will work well.

It came with ugly homemade fretboards that were way off at the 12th fret. I searched for fender boards and couldnt find any for sale, thought about making replicas at a vinyl sign shop, then just gave up and ordered the sho-bud style boards that are commonly available. since the bridges were reversed in the guitar, the scale was correct for the sho bud fretboards. if I found some fender boards I could still flip those bridges and have the correct scale for the fender boards. seems like maybe parts are getting harder to come or at least selling for a little more than they used to.
My guitar used to be sunburst I think. |
