Hey Everyone,
I just released a new CD of 17 pedal and lap steel instrumentals on my record label, Ventrella Records. It is available CDBaby.com - Here is the link to buy "Steel is Real" on CDBaby:
http://cdbaby.com/cd/joelpaterson .
Here is a picture of the record cover and some live YouTube links from the CD release party we just had in Madison, Wisconsin. I hope you enjoy them!
If you are in Chicago - I will be having a CD release party for "Steel is Real" at The Hideout on June 20th, and The Green Mill on July 5th. Hope to see you out!
Check out http://myspace.com/joelpaterson for more info on my band and record label.

Dang, Joel. That is some impressive album art. You really went all out on it. If I can judge this book by the cover, there's some real good sounding stuff in there.

Nice playing on those clips, too. Where were those other clips of your trio filmed? I dug the Django tune.

Thanks Justin, I love the old style LP art. I looked into pressing vinyl but it was a little pricey, so I made a mini LP style CD jacket.
I think the other clips you are talking about are from the Charleston? The Django tune, Nuages, was from a Charleston gig. That's on the new CD.

Thanks Dan. I've never been to Seattle, I'd love to check it out. Unfortunately - gone are the days when you can get in the van and drive all over the country to promote a record. Myspace and YouTube are a lot cheaper! Maybe I'll make it out there sometime.

That's great stuff, Joel. Your tastes really mesh with mine. I love the artwork, too. Looks like something I'd be delighted to find in a thrift store record bin.

Good Work!

Nice stuff! There's some folks here in Portland who do a very similar thing, Royal Motel Orchestra.

Hi Joel,

Very cool stuff. Always great to see guys playing hip tunes. Reminds me of Lester Peabody's album.

Good luck,
Joe

check it out, you can read about it and listen to audio samples. There is also a link to a CD we just released backing up the great boogie piano player, Carl Sonny Leyland, it's called "A Chicago Session."
Thanks for all your comments, everyone. Joshua, you are on to me. Joe, you mentioned Lester Peabody - he's a good friend of mine and a great guitar and steel player from Finland (Jussi, are you out there?).

I saw Dave Berzansky live once with The Hacienda Brothers. He is just a great player, and tasteful, too. He scared me away from E9 for a little while.

Hey Chicago Steelers,
I'm playing July 5 at Chicago's famous jazz club, The Green Mill to promote "Steel is Real."
I don't know if there has ever been a pedal steel in that place - I hope we don't get thrown out!

Joel,

Just curious, are the Four Charms still going? That band is great.

For those of you that haven't heard Joel's guitar playing.....check out the Four Charms. Flatland Boogie.

Hey Steve,
Thanks for asking. The Four Charms don't really play anymore, but I still play with Jimmy Sutton in other projects.
Right now I mainly focus on The Joel Paterson Trio, and Devil in a Woodpile.
