Just wondering how many players today are running just a pre-amp into the board with amp simulation, and using monitors for an amp??

If I have an amp breakdown or just a small stage, I sometimes run from my processor to a Countryman DI and then into the mixer. I don't like the tone much, though.

When i was playing on the road "Bus" we all played through processors and had our own monitor mix. it was much lighter load for the bus and easier setup and tear down. Stage volume was never a problem either.
I use a Peavey tube fex and A Digitech GSP21 pro one for steel and one for guitar. I had a speaker simulator in line as well on both of them, it was a rackmount piece made by Rocktron I think. It's been a while ago. We did a show with Dan Seals and his band all played that way and they had a great sound so we asked lots of questions and basically did the same thing.

I use a direct setup.
Guitar-Exar tuber(overdrive)-Boss fbm.1-Boss rv5-Behringer ultra.G, then direct into the console, and get my sound back thru in-ear monitoring.
It sounded a little sterile when i first did this, but when I added the Boss fbm.1 pedal it became much better sounding, kinda tube-soundy, wich I like.

The best is of course an amp, but when you play a lot, logistics is a factor
I always try to cut down on the pieces of equipment i have to carry to a gig.

I've been using a Mesa Boogie studio pre with a Lexicon MX 200 in the fx loop and using the recording outs into a more-me. If I use a amp it's a Nash112 and I have used the Boogie into the power amp in on the 112. Works great. I've got a Pod Pro that I've used direct and I'm thinking about getting a Pod XT for direct recording.

Thanks tony, i have been running a pod xt for 5 years now, i have nothing but superb complements on the tone from players, sound crews, and singers and listeners, including my back, [thats my biggest listener].
I also run one for my guitars, Sound guys love em, plug in and play, sweet tones and verbs and warm effects.
I havent ran an amp for 5 years live.
On a new gig, i always get a raised eyebrow look from the singer, when he ask's ' where's your amp? and i hold it up and say, here it is mate!
After the first song, the eyebrows drop and the smiles come on!

hey Larry, I've been thinking about scaling back and just use my amp instead of the boogie and I've got a Pod XT on loan to see if I like it before I buy one. I've not got to play around much. What amp do use on the pod? Thanks, Tony

What i do is run the Tube preamp, and run Speaker #8 I THINK ITS A LINE 6 2X12.
The mic's i use Sm58 on axis, reverb is large hall.
It took me about 2 weeks when i first got it to dial it in, be pateint tony, it's an awsome tool, i have pretty much got the 'Dan huff' tone, too on guitar, but it takes time and exsperimentation, too many guys loose pateince and give up saying 'it's no good' etc.
It's an absolute monster i swear.
I run a little compression on the steel patch, but use full volume to set it at your taste's
I have 4 patches and use finger touch to change them.
I run a JBL 10 inch powered monitor for foldback.
The Acoustic amp is great if you flat-pick too!
I have a seperate patch for my flat-top and one for my Nylon string.
I dought it, but you might like it enough to give the back a rest and leave the Nashville at home.

Back to the real world, the Pod is a great tool and is pretty much completely tweakable if you take the time.
