Imanna try this a different way. Really just hoping to meet some folks in town who own steel guitars, that I might be able to look at, converse about in person, perhaps even touch, and possibly contract for a lesson or two...

Original posting: (didn't generate any response...)

Looking for a live show/demo in San Francisco.

Anyone playing any kind of gigs in San Francisco? I'ld really like to come out and see someone playing pedal steel...

I don't give lessons but if you stop by I'll do my best to show you what little I know. Some great San Francisco & bay area players that are gigging are David Phillips, Joe Goldmark, the "legendary Bobby Black, Richard Sinkler, Steve Silver, Henry Nagle, Jon Mitgard, Barry Sless, Billy Wilson, Gary Chiapetta, Jeff Hanson and Kery Johnson. Sorry if I left someone off the list. I know there's more! Most of these guys are on the forum.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the infos. I've been looking at Richard Sinkler's web site a couple of times, but I don't drive anymore, and I was hoping to see a show, or meet someone right in SF. -I'm one of those newbies who is fascinated and intrigued by the instrument, but the barriers to entry are great. I'm thinking about letting go of my mint American Fender jazz bass, or maybe my Gibson es 175d, to build some steam for a purchase, but the fact is, I don't know if I've ever even actually seen a steel in real life. Times are hard, and I may have to suffice with my lap steel mock-up for the time being. Still, I'm fascinated, and hungry.

Please don't forget to post if you do a gig in the city. I'll keep monitoring the list/educating myself.

This
 has got to be the icon for newbies..

You might contact Tim Marcus. He is a relatively new guy in SF that plays pedalsteel.

Hey thanks Bob, I was just telling Brad from the non-pedal pages that I wish I had been bitten by this bug a little earlier. I was in Austin for a week, on business about a year ago. It was a day or so after the (governor's mansion?) caught fire and was damaged. I'm sure I could have looked at some steels in a shop there somewhere...

Looks like Tim is touring, but I'm starting to get a collection of web pages for the local guys. Thanks again for the info.

Barry is touring and playing around the Bay Area in a band called Moonalice. Not sure how much he's working with David Nelson these days.

Darn Dave, I'll be out of town on 8/12, too. I would love to be there for that. Lots of good players!

Thanks for including me in the list of SF steel players above, I'm humbled to be listed in such great company.
