I just had a lengthy conversation with Jeff Strouse.
Jeff has been in contact with Rick's wife, Cathy.....and Cathy's wishes are that we continue Rick's work and dreams of going forward with the non pedal sessions next year in Dallas. Cathy whole heartedly will support us 100% in our efforts to accomplish this.
Jeff and myself have agreed to take on this Herculean task.....and with the support of our community......we WILL make this happen.
At present, I have an email out to Albert Talley of the TSGA informing him of our intentions to move forward and do whatever needs to be done to secure our place in 2010.
Jeff is meeting next week with Cathy to go over and obtain files and information of what Rick has proceeded with so far.
Jeff has also spoken to Herb Remmington who offered his support in our endeavor.
We will be calling on our friends here to lend us a helping hand in matters that require more expertise in certain areas, than Jeff and I have.
To all of the musicians/artists whom Rick has contacted, and who want to perform in The Rick Alexander Non Pedal Sessions, we ask of your confidence in Jeff & myself as we truly want to honor the memory of our dear late friend. We will be contacting you once we have Rick's info & files.
The Show will go on. |

What a happy post to greet me this otherwise dull and gloomy day.......
Congratulations to the both of you for this commitment. Those of us out here on the outer fringes wish we could do more.......but distance does have its penalties.
I know Rick's heart was set on further expansion of this project and I know he'd admire the two of you for this gigantic and unfamiliar personal undertaking. I think it's a wonderful gesture on your parts and I know of no better way in which to honor his personal efforts. I was so afraid the project would merely be dropped or fade into oblivion.
I hope you'll retain Rick's name on/in any promotional banners, flyers, communications, for after all, it was HIS SHOW.
THANK YOU from way out west. |

I was wondering if anyone was going to take on the job, but I was afraid to ask in case it was seen to be too soon after Rick's passing. I'm sorry now that I missed this year's event. I told Rick I would probably attend next year's, and I probably will. It's such a shame that Rick won't be there, though I'm sure he will be there in spirit. We should do something as a lasting memorial to him. I don't know what. |

Thank you, Steve...that means a lot. Rick would be glad.
I was able to talk to Albert Talley last night, and he is in full support of us continuing Rick's work...he agreed that we can't let it end now. It's too important of an event to fade away. Rick only wanted to promote and spread the world of steel guitar; and, what better way than to bring together a weekend of celebration like we do in Dallas.
I'm honored to help carry the torch with my friend Howard, to continue the legacy of Rick's work.
I hope everyone will join us at the 2010 show. Rick was all about the music...that was his love. Let's don't make this, (as Don McClean said in his famous song), "the day the music died." |

Jeff and I have a couple of ideas which coincided with some posts here.
At The Rick Alexander Non Pedal Sessions, we would like to set up a memorial area devoted to Rick, with a poster of him, a bio, a tribute, and perhaps some memorabilia, and anything else that would be fitting for this......
We also would like to create a website of The Rick Alexander Non Pedal Sessions, devoted to Rick's work in establishing this venue.....this website can be linked with Rick's own site, hopefully the TSGA site, The SGF, and any other appropriate site.
I have been working on my own business site using the template based programs on Go Daddy (very, very reasonable in terms of expense - I recommend it to anybody who wants to create their own site) and I'm very happy with it. I also have a graphic designer in my corner, and so this is a go.
Jeff and myself do have our work cut out for us, and it's a labor of love......we will be calling on our forum brethren & sisters for advice, help, and guidance....
We appreciate the confidence and support that you have already shown.

I felt and thought the same way. This past Saturday night, I had trouble sleeping.....I would doze off and in the back of my mind was Rick, and I'd wake up...this happened all through the night.....I finally got some sleep in the wee hours of the morning......and when I woke up,....it was clear to me what would have to be done....and it would have to be established right away without anymore passing of time.....
I still owe you a shipment Alan.....I didn't forget.....I know we've both been busy....

Thank you Anthony.....we will be needing help to set up the equipment....properly... ......and it's nice to know that you're there for us.....
Mike.....I'll be getting a hold of you soon....
Steve.....you've always been a rock solid foundation.....and we'll be hitting you up for some more of that.....
Ben....it was nice to meet you last year....and thanks for your offer....we will be asking of folks, as this will be a little more of a group effort.....
Ray.....no matter how far away you are....you're always there for us......and we always knew that....
Chuck.....we will for sure,....take you up on that.....thanks.....
It's interesting.....as Jeff and myself become more immersed in this, little by little......we realize that what Rick did as one man.....is mind boggling.....his networking alone, aside from everything else, seems to be a full time job.....how he played gigs, produced instruction, video'd and uploaded videos, produced and recorded CDs, maintained his instruments, communicated with a vast number of people.....is beyond my comprehension.....

I'm very glad the non-pedal sessions will be continued. Like Alan, I was apprehensive about asking.
Don't forget-leave out Gerald Ross. |

Thank you George.....it wouldn't be a non pedal session without you either.....
I don't think of it as the end of an era....I think of it as a continuation of the journey, Rick's journey.....and we can certainly put together a fitting tribute to Rick....
How can we forget Gerald Ross?.....multi talented, great friend, and athletic,...errr, staunch supporter.....Gerald is a given.....but certainly not taken for granted..... |
