There is an interesting and informative article featured in Guitar Player Magazine(August 2009 issue, written by Deke Dickerson) about an obscure steel player named Anthony Rocco who was credited as the inventor of the first effects device for electric instruments, the volume/tone pedal. The companion photo and some personal insight concerning Mr. Rocco were provided by Jody Carver. Very worthwhile reading if you are interested in how all these different effects and gadgets that are currently available had their beginning.
