I realize this is old news to some since it happened back in February, but I just found it out. My all-time favorite country music show in the Smokies is NO MORE Sad . . . .The Smoky Mountain Jubilee. I just can't believe it's gone after all these years (over 30+). Linda & me haven't been to Pigeon Forge in awhile but I was thinking about going for a couple of days. I checked the website and it said they had shut down back in February. Elmer & Faunda Dryer who owned the Show were some of the sweetest folks you'd ever want to meet. I know the last thing they ever wanted to do was close it down and I really hate this for them. Just another sign of the bad economy which is affecting the tourist trade. Mad

I used to work that show as a fill in. It was a very professional show, and you really had to be on your toes and watch the charts to keep up. It was no "jam" type show, every note had it's place. Elmer, etc.. were super people to work for, and he really knew how to put a show together. Forum member Gary McVey was a multi-task member of the show for years. So sad to see it go. Ex-Loretta Lynn guys, Steve Hembree and Eddie Wilson were there for many years too.

I worked some of the other shows there too, through the years, and most of them have shut down or changed hands several times recently.

Dollywood is the drawing card for Pigeon Forge now. There's some other shows going, but IMHO, I think they would all be hurting if it were not for Dollywood.

Rick,
If we decide to come over that way, would you all be interested in meeting us for dinner somewhere?

Wow mom said they were closed in April which I thought was just a seasonal thing. Karen and I have a timeshare in Gatlinburg and love to vacation in Nashville and the smokies. We always made the shows and will miss them greatly. Memories threater with Lou Vitto is another favorite of ours. Can't make it out there this year but for sure in 2010.
