Which is the most used Pickups today in D-10 Steels, and which ones has the best tone in your own opinion.
In the Universal 12 I like the Sierra Pickups.
I'm getting a D-10 G2 Mullen and having the BL-705's installed, I like Humbucking PUPs, I have a set of Emmons Humbucking in my Emmons that sound great.
But was just wondering about the best choice for my new Mullen G2 would be.
Jump in with your imput.
Thanks,
Bill

Bill,
Pickups are one of those things that's been discussed hundreds of times here on the forum.
It really boils down to what your personal preference is, and what you're looking for...is it the cutting highs, or more low end warmth and body?
My opinion is that most pickups manufactured today have their own characteristics, this is where you start, but you must know what you're looking for first.
Other than that, I think most steelers would agree that you can take a good pickup and make it sound badly if you don't set your amp correctly, or in reverse you can take a pickup that may be week in certain frequencies and boost those on your amp settings to counter balance...
The bottom line is there are several considerations for choosing the right pickup...and knowing what sound you're looking for is where you start...
Everything else is someone's opinion.
Hope that helps,

Well said Curtis, thats how i settled on a single coil PU, i new what sound i was after and i found it in a SC. I played an Emmons PP for 22 yrs so i guess i use that as a reference to how i want my guitar to sound.

I know this sounds rather silly, but I'd probably use whatever type the
manufacturer recommends. Most have a "standard" that
they have selected that enhances the sound of their guitar.

The single coil that Dixie wound for my G2 sounds really good to my ear. It's clear and clean, and has the single coil sound I like. But, I attribute a lot of that tone to the BJS bar I use!

Bill,
I have never been disappointed in the TruTone pickups built by Jerry Wallace of Artesia, New Mexico.
I have them on most all of my guitars, either as retro-fit or ordered installed on new instruments.
