I see from his website that Paul Franklin used to use this set up, so it must be pretty decent. I might be able to assemble the pieces for cheap, as I already have speakers that would be compatible. How does it compare to a Dual Showman Reverb? Is the StudioPre reverb any good?
I know this equipment is fairly dated and heavy (but then so am I). Does it sound good? |

One of the best preamps and one of the best power amps ever manufactured! Together they are an outstanding combination. You've already addressed the only drawback. They are a bit on the heavy side. I prefer the sound over the Fender Twin & Vibrosonic amps I've had. |

Paul I think Randle is still using that set up a lot of the time, at least I know he was and he liked it. |

Who is Randle? Hope I'm not offending anyone, but I really don't know who you are talking about. |

Paul,I use that setup every day in the studio...however,if I'm doing the carrying,I use the smaller Mosvalve model...I have a 500,but it's in my cartage rack...the smaller one is as loud as a Twin and quite a bit lighter...I use a Studio Preamp with both and have been very happy with this setup...I have some Fenders, but clean headroom can be a problem with them...never with the Boogie/Mosvalve...have fun! |

My apologies to Mr. Currie. I've noticed his fine playing with Brad Paisley. I just didn't connect the name. |

Steve: What sound differences, besides volume, do you hear, if any, between the Mosvalve 500 and the smaller head (I presume the MV962 with 80 watts per channel)? The 500 weighs 30 pounds and the MV962 only weighs 13. Seems like quite a big difference. And the 500 seems like way too much power for any normal use.
Bob: Can you expand on why you prefer the Showman. What are you hearing? |

The reverb on the Boogie is pretty much useless. I tried it when I got the Studio Pre and never used it... _________________ Olli Haavisto

Paul,I've never heard any difference at all between the 500 and the smaller Mosvalve...I usually use a Peavey Nashville 112 when I play live, but I have used the Boogie/Mosvalve several times with no problem...I use a Marrs cab with the new Eminence 15"steel speaker and sit the amp so I can hear it...sounds just like the 500 to my ears!
Another power amp I've used with the Boogie is a Rocktron Velocity...I can't really tell a difference between it and the Mosvalves...have fun! |

I think the Mesa Studio reverb sounds fine to me. I use it with a touch of delay and get great results. Well the tone, not the playing! |
