For the standard Emmons C6 setup as shown here

Is it useful to have pedal 7 tunable split with the string 3 and 4 levers?
Any other useful splits that on C6 that involve changes that are not on the Emmons setup?
A search showed little to no discussion of splits on the C6 tuning.

I don't see the point.
Pedal 7 gives a D on string 3. Splitting it with the lever that lowers 3 to B gives a C#. If you use the tuning as listed, you have the C# on RKR already.
Same is true on string 4. Pedal 7 gives a B note. Splitting it with the lever that lowers A to Ab would give you a Bb. Again, if you use the tuning as listed, you have the Bb on LKR.

It probably depends a lot on what string gauges you're using. If you raise #3 to C# on RKR, you still have an (A) on #4, but; if you raise #3 & #4 on p-7 and also lower #3 to C# on RKL, you still have a (B) on #4. If you then lower #3 by itself and it's slightly flat, you need the split/tuner. If it is in-tune, of course you don't need the split/tuner! The same goes for p-7 and LKL.

Sorry, y'all. But do I understand correctly that a split is when two different pedals or levers have opposite affects on a string and one is able to tune those two opposite affects into a third usable affect?

That is correct. But the splits mentioned above are available with separate knee levers, eliminating the need for splits, unless you have some chords available with them that are not available elsewhere. Since the poster used the tuning setup (Buddy's), the assumption has to be that the poster is using all the changes in that tuning. And, using pedal 7 raising both strings 3 & 4, the splits wouldn't give you the individual changes that the separate levers give. Example, the A to Bb lever giving the dom 7th of the C chord. Using the split senario above, you couldn't use the 3rd string in the C7th chord.
On the C6th, most changes are just half tone changes. Not much need for splits. |
